Robots Perform Saudi Ardah Dance

Chinese humanoid robots dressed in traditional Saudi attire performed the Ardah sword dance during a reception in Riyadh. The event, organized by the Chinese Embassy to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, drew a crowd that included Riyadh Governor Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf Al Mukrin and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua.

The robots moved in perfect synchrony to a backdrop of traditional drums, holding swords and executing the characteristic steps of the Ardah. Their balanced, coordinated motions captured the attention of attendees and a video of the performance has since gone viral on social media.

Ambassador Chang Hua shared a clip of the dance on the X platform, writing: “Our embassy organized a reception tonight to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. We thank our friends who honored us with their presence. Chinese-made robots delivered striking performances that left a deep impression on the participants.”

Ardah is a key element of Saudi cultural heritage, typically performed by groups of men armed with swords, accompanied by drum rhythms and poetry. The robots’ execution of this traditional dance showcased China’s advances in humanoid robotics, which the country has highlighted at various technology events where robots have danced, played sports, and performed other tasks.
